Sukhasana, Swasthikasana And Padmasana
Sukasana Or Easy Pose
How to Perform Sukasana
- Spread a large size, thick bed sheet on the floor.
- Sit down with your legs streching forward facing either east or west.
- Now bend your right knee to move your legs towards you until your feet touches the left thigh.
- Do the same for your left leg and touch your right thigh with the feet. Now the legs remain crossed to each other.
- Nor strech your arms and put your palms over your knees. Your head, neck and your back should remain straight, knees should be touching the floor. Now relax your body completely and close the eyes.
- Let the breathing be normal. Count the number of inhalation , until it reaches15-16. It will be 1 minute by then. Sit in the pose for 2 minutes in the beginning. This is the simplest among “asanas”.
In the beginning “sukasana” may be difficult for those who are unfamiliar sitting down. Few days practice will make it perfect. This asana is not meant for a short period. Through constant training one must be able to sit in this posture for an indefenite period . This is called “sthirasukasana”
Swasthikasana or Auspicious Pose
This method of doing the yoga is almost identical to that of “sukasana”. With minor improvisation on “sukasana”, “swasthikasana” can be performed.
The only difference is that the feet should touch your abdomen and should be parallel to your thighs. Unlike sukasana where your fingers are visible, swasthikasana suggest to insert your leg fingers between the folds of the legs.
Padmasana or Lotus Pose
With an improvisation on “Sukasana” and “Swasthikasana”, “Padmasana” can be performed.
Unlike “sukasana” and “swasthikasana,” where your feet remain parallel to your thighs, “Padmasana” suggests to place your feet above your thighs. This is an extremely difficult pose for the beginners. However one can manage to sit in this position for an indefenite period without any stress. “Padmasana” is possible only through continuous practice.
Ardha-Padmasana or Half Lotus Pose.
